The Catfish is a fish that can be caught in the river (in Pelican Town or Cindersap Forest), and the Riverlands Farm, Forest Farm, or Hill-Top Farm during Spring and Fall when raining, or in the Secret Woods or Witch's Swamp during Spring, Summer, and Fall when raining. It can also be caught in Winter at these locations if a Rain Totem is used.

In addition, it can also be acquired, from the following:

• A pet cat with max friendship, may gift it to the player.
• Garbage Cans may randomly contain one during Spring and Fall.
• The Traveling Cart may randomly sell one for data-sort-value="200"600–1,000g.
• Linus may randomly send a Catfish in the mail as a gift.
• One Catfish is contained in the Community Center Fish Tank right after it is repaired.
• Catfish can be caught regardless of weather, time, or season using Magic Bait.

Map

Catfish can be found in the river, in the Secret Woods pond when it's raining, and in the Witch's Swamp.

Tailoring

Catfish can be used in the spool of the Sewing Machine to create the dyeable Fish Shirt.

Fish Pond

Catfish can be placed in a Fish Pond, where they will reproduce every 4 days. The initial pond capacity is 3 fish, but the capacity can be increased to 10 by completing three quests. The only possible output is dark gray Catfish Roe.

Quests

• Item Delivery: One catfish may be randomly requested in Spring or Fall at the "Help Wanted" board outside Pierre's General Store for a reward of data-sort-value="600">600g and 150 Friendship points.
• Fishing: Demetrius or Willy may randomly request 1-4 catfish in Spring or Fall at the "Help Wanted" board outside Pierre's General Store for a reward of data-sort-value="200">200g per fish. (You get to keep the fish).

History

• 1.4: Removed from garbage cans and most quests in Winter. Added iridium quality. Can now be used in Tailoring.
• 1.4.4: Fixed a mistake in the game data that prevented catfish-specific fish pond data from being applied (in earlier versions, catfish used the same fish pond data as all generic river fish). Catfish can no longer be requested by Demetrius or Willy in a Fishing Help Wanted quest during Winter.
• 1.6: One is contained in the Community Center Fish Tank right after it is repaired. Can now be gifted by a pet cat with max friendship.
