Growth Time Variable

A Maple Tree is a type of Tree. It grows from a Maple Seed. A planted Maple Seed grows through four stages before reaching maturity, with an approximate 20% chance of growing to the next stage each day, although Maple Trees do not grow in Winter. The median time to maturity is about 18 days, with over 90% of seeds maturing in fewer than 32 growing days. A stage 4 sapling will not grow to maturity while a mature tree is in an immediately adjacent tile, but otherwise, unlike Fruit Trees, the growth of a Maple Tree will not be affected by the contents of any adjacent tile.

Maple Trees outside the farm (except in Pelican Town) can be chopped down or tapped. These trees will respawn as Stage 3 saplings (20% chance each day) and grow as normal after that, as long as the stump is removed.

When tapped, it yields Maple Syrup.

Maple trees have a chance to drop a Hazelnut when shaken or chopped down during the last 2 weeks of Fall.

Bugs

  • Normally a Maple Tree can be planted only on The Farm, or in select spots of tillable soil outside the farm. However, an Acorn, Maple Seed, or Pine Cone can be planted in the tilled tile left by digging up an Artifact Spot, no matter where it occurs.
  • As soon as you level up in Foraging Skill, all common trees stop dropping seeds when shaken or chopped down, and their seeds disappear when harvesting them with a tool. This lasts the rest of the day, but is fixed after sleeping and waking up the next day.

Trivia

  • Watering a Stage 2 or 3 tree makes the same sound as striking it with a Scythe.
  • Chopping a Stage 2 or 3 sapling with an axe drops 1 wood, but removing it with a scythe drops nothing.
