Wild Bait is a type of bait that makes it possible to catch two fish at the same time and also makes fish bite slightly faster than standard Bait. You can only craft Wild Bait after being taught the recipe by Linus, during his 4-heart cutscene. (To trigger the cutscene, earn 4 hearts of friendship with Linus, then enter the Mountain between 8pm and 12am on a sunny day.) Once you know the recipe it is also possible to obtain Wild Bait from Fishing Treasure Chests.
Wild Bait cannot be used with the Bamboo Pole. Only the Fiberglass Rod (unlocked at Fishing level 2) or the Iridium Rod (unlocked at Fishing level 6) can use bait. Wild bait can also technically be used in a Crab Pot, but it is no better than standard bait: crab pots never produce double fish.
Use
To attach the bait to your rod, left-click the bait in your backpack (or right-click to pick up a single one), then right-click the rod.
On an Xbox or PS4 controller, press A or X respectively on the bait to select the whole stack (or X/⬜ to pick up a single one), then X or ⬜ to attach to the rod.
Only one bait will be consumed per use. The remaining bait can be detached by right-clicking the rod in your backpack or pressing X/⬜ on the Controller.
Effect
Using Wild Bait with your fishing rod reduces the delay before a nibble by 62.5%. There is also a chance to catch two fish, equal to 0.25 + Daily Luck / 2.0 [1]. The chance to catch 2 fish does not apply to Legendary Fish.
Note that catching two fish does not grant double Fishing Experience points.
