The Pickaxe is a tool obtained at the beginning of the game.
It is used mainly for breaking stones and picking up placed equipment or furniture. It can also be used to remove crops, and to un-till soil that has previously been tilled with a Hoe. Striking a planted crop will remove the crop, leaving the underlying tilled soil intact along with any fertilizer present. Striking on tilled soil will revert the tile to an un-tilled state, removing any applied fertilizers.
The Pickaxe may be upgraded at the Blacksmith. The cost and resource requirements for each upgrade are shown in the table below. With each upgrade level, the number of hits required to break stones and nodes is reduced, as well as breaking harder types of rocks becomes possible. Unlike the farming tools which can be charged up to clear an area, pickaxes themselves can never break multiple rocks; for this task Bombs or Explosive Ammo for the Slingshot are required.
Using the pickaxe on a Monster will deal a small portion of damage, similar to other weapons. Hitting a Crab 5 times with a pickaxe will knock off it shell, causing the crab to flee.
